The WNBF follows the WADA guidelines for Prohibited Substances. As BPC-157 is specifically banned by the WADA it is banned by the WNBF as well.
With respect to the comparison between cortisone and stem cells compared to BPC-157:
Cortisone and stem cells are not considered performance enhancing drugs and are not banned substances by the WADA. BPC-157 is considered a performance enhancing drug and is banned by the WADA (Section S0).
Cortisone and stem cells are synthesized naturally by the human body and each have numerous dedicated roles in human and mammalian biology. BPC-157 is a synthetic string of 15 amino acids created by combining two different regions of a gastric protective protein, it does not occur in nature, nor does it have any natural function of its own.
Cortisone was FDA approved for human use in 1949 after decades of trials and has been available every year ever since. Stem cells were approved for human use for specific lymphomas for the first time in 1975 after decades of clinical research, they’ve been in use every year ever since for ever more diagnosis, and were most recently approved by the FDA and Medicare for wound therapy in 2021. BPC-157 has not been entered into any FDA trials in this county or similar trials in any other country, and it is not FDA approved for any medical use.
By law cortisone and stem cells are isolated, purified, and produced in medical facilities licensed and supervised by the USDA; they require a physician’s prescription; and they can only be administered by a licensed physician or credentialed and licensed healthcare provider. Today BPC-157 has “Research Chemical” status according to the FDA and its manufacture, sale and distribution, and administration is completely unregulated in any way.
We are very comfortable with cortisone and stem cells because they have not been found to be performance enhancing drugs; they are not banned by the WADA; they occur naturally and are essential components of human biology with dedicated functions; they have each had decades of human trials, been FDA approved, and are approved for multiple medical uses; they are both controlled substances in that they can only be prescribed and administered by a physician or credentialed healthcare provider; and they are manufactured and distributed under strict USDA guidelines. None of these things can be said of BPC-157.
It is entirely possible that you have been prescribed BPC-157 by a physician. Just because it’s not FDA approved doesn’t mean that they can’t prescribe it and we are well aware that more and more functional medicine physicians and orthopedic surgeons have been experimenting with the various peptides with their patients. In these cases we do have the option of our Medical Exemption Application (MEA). To apply for an MEA we ask for:
(1) Imaging reports from the licensed Radiologist documenting the injury;
(2) Clinical visit notes from the licensed Physician/Orthopedist which contain the same diagnosis found in the Radiology Report;
(3) mention of prescribing whatever the banned substance may have been as treatment for the diagnosis; and the
(4) prescription in a reasonable and appropriate dose for the banned substance;
(5) A copy of the prescription; and
(6) the documentation from the pharmacy or compound pharmacy that filled the prescription.
All diagnosis and doses need to match throughout and all dates must be in time order. This is no guarantee that an exemption will be granted, this is what’s required for your case to be evaluated. It’s all relatively easy to produce and once it’s in place our Medical Officer will evaluate it.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to keep the WNBF Truly Natural and competitive Worldwide.
